Newzzit Short Video News & Social Commentary Platform

App

Newzzit was conceptualized as a modern-day news consumption platform tailored for Gen Z and millennials — replacing text-heavy formats with swipeable short videos. It allowed users to consume bite-sized news clips and actively participate through short video reactions, making news interactive, social, and personal. The platform aimed to bridge the gap between passive consumption and meaningful user engagement.

Challenge

Building a content-first platform that balances editorial credibility with user-generated interactions. Designing for video-first consumption required a rethink of conventional information hierarchy, notification behavior, and real-time engagement mechanics. The biggest challenge was to ensure clarity and trust in a format dominated by brevity and social noise.

Objective

To create a design system and user experience flow that supports seamless short video playback, intuitive gestures, quick reactions, and responsible content engagement. The platform needed to onboard users quickly, promote retention through daily interactions, and create an immersive news environment that felt more like a social app than a news portal.

Results

Delivered a modular design system optimized for vertical video UX and quick content layering. Introduced a novel comment-in-video feature with smooth UI transitions. Early user testing showed a 72% daily return rate and 3x engagement compared to text-based news apps. The platform successfully carved a niche in the interactive news content space for younger audiences.
